Male, the King’s island welcomes you.

Step into the capital city of the Maldives. The city is home to modern high rise buildings and local markets entrenched in rich history. The roads are paved, and a seawall surrounds this small island, along with an artificial beach. The main street, Majeedhee Magu, runs right through the island from east to west. Chaandhanee Magu, on the other hand, runs across from north to south, welcoming you with open arms.

How to reach Male?

You can reach the bustling capital of the Maldives via ferry boats operated round the clock between the airport island Hulhule’ and Male’ City. The airport has good facilities, including banks, multiple ATMs, pharmacy, internet cafe, and left luggage service ($5/bag/day) located just outside the arrivals area. You can reach Hulhumale’ by taxi or public bus, but most of the better hotels will arrange for a driver to pick you up and drop you back off at the airport

Minimum no. of nights at Male.

We recommend an overnight stay at Male. Most travellers visit Male as a pit spot when their flight lands on time and when private island resort transfer is not possible. However, the local markets are quite popular among tourists and a traveller in you can go exploring the local culture.

Accomodation Location

  • In Male Deluxe and budget hotels offering accommodation in the capital.
  • In Hulhumale is the area along the beach on the northern east coast is where you'll find many hotels and quite a few tourist-oriented restaurants within an easy walk of one another. If you have some time during daylight hours, you can actually spend it on the sandy beach in this area

Male is a little more than a mile wide. It would take you only around 30 minutes to walk from one end of the island to the other – maybe more if you get stuck in “traffic.)

FAQ

Which Resort island should we choose?

If you are wishing to store some of your luggage safely at airport, just walk to our Information Desk request for luggage storage Service.

What to choose Male or Hulhumale

Hulhumale is connected to the airport island and is much more "westernized" than Male.

If people are not familiar with South Asian cities, then Male might be a bit much for them.

Personally, I love Male and would stay there over Hulhumale. However, if I have an early morning flight to catch, or if I'm arriving very late at the airport, then I'd choose Hulhumale.
